is there a story to this moral?

For work purposes (and because I am a bit of a news junky), I follow technical (consumer computer) updates rather closely. I often find myself curled up in bed with a report on Internet usage statistics, promoting wireless technologies, or something equally interesting. And I usually like it - I like to have the latest gadgets and capabilities. The most recent report I've been reading is about blogging trends, and try as I might, I cannot understand this focus on oft-unknown, self-depricating publishing. I have a blog and a myspace and an MSN spaces and I have no problem distributing photos of myself to the eternal abyss that is the Internet. But I still don't understand why. Why do I want to publish useless sentences, see myself come up in Google, or create videos that people shouldn't waste their time watching? And why am I so obsessed with reading other people's material? I am not even a millenium-gener.
