13 July 2004, 13:03 All-Star No-StarThe MLB All-Star game is in Houston tonight. This should be very exciting for many reasons. Not only is it a live sporting event packed full of stars, but it is the ALL-STAR GAME – the type of thing you only get to watch on television, never expecting to have the opportunity to see it in real life. Unfortunately, it actually isn’t exciting at all for me. My chances of making it to the game are no better living 50km from the stadium than they were when I lived 3,500km away. This is why professional baseball is falling very nearly into a trap of suckiness. I agree that season ticket holders should get first dibs on All-Star tix, but to make on 1,200 public seats available is ridiculous. Baseball is supposed to be about hot dogs and sunflower seeds and kids dressed in their ball uniforms. It should not be about corporate execs and media VIPs and 150$ individual tickets that are totally inaccessible to your average, middle class family. Boo-urns to the MLB.
