01 June 2004, 23:11 In desperate search of the ExtraordinaryBefore last Friday I was pretty excited that I would have finally have a story to tell. I had a long weekend and I was going to find an adventure. I was upset about missing the traditional wilderness beer fest for Victoria Day, and thought I would make it up by turning my weekend into a Memorial Day wilderness beer fest. Unfortunately, that didn't quite happen. In fact, it was nothing like home. That's not to say that I didn't have fun - I may even go so far as to say it was a great time - it just wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Here's the abridged version what happened: - Saturday morning I woke up at 5:30 to join a goodbye breakfast for someone I had never met before heading to Austin. - Checked into hotel, eat again, went to some wildflower park (actually I went for a walk while everyone else did this), eat again, played in some underground caves, and eat again. - That evening we headed to the much talked about 6th street. Contrary to all accounts, I have to say that I was pretty disappointed. College was out, so every bar we went into had nobody but the bartender. We eventually found a cool pub, which I think was decided upon because it would shut me up about missing the hockey game. It had about 40 pool tables and a painting of ACDC rocking on top of the shuttle. - Sunday involved a lot less eating, but still a significant amount of grocery shopping. By 14:00, we had arrived a Guadalupe River State Park, where we were to spend the night. Here I played on a rope swing over the river with some strangers for 2 hours, floated in the water a bit, went hiking in search of venomous snakes, and discovered how freaky armadillos actually are. - Monday was more of the same, but included a 5am wake up call and a 4 hour drive back home So, what's my problem then? What do I have to complain about? Nothing really. It's just that I had to play on a river instead of a lake and I didn't get to see any stars. Of course, the weekend was made perfect thanks to the overwhelming excitment I had in finally having a slurpee (several, actually). Oh, why can't Houston have sevs? They have no idea what they are missing! I finally saw the movie. The battle of the Texas Trojan will take place this Monday provided everything else is in place by then. It will run live on the thundercats website at 16:30.
